Slewing Bearing Unique Application Characteristics
- Jan 03, 2019 -

Slewing bearings (slewing bearings) have unique load-bearing characteristics and are commonly used on lifting appliances, excavators, rotary tables, wind turbines, telescopes and tank turrets. Thanks to improvements in machining methods and the renewal of design concepts, today's slewing bearings can be used in smaller, more complex and more sophisticated applications.

In the machine tool industry, the standard structure of the slewing bearing uses a high-precision level while applying a preload to eliminate the gap and reduce vibration. The slewing bearing has a radial runout and diameter tolerances ranging from one thousandth to one ten thousandth of an inch (2.54 tan), compact, small cross-section and diameters as small as 50 mm (steel balls for this type of slewing) The size is smaller than that of the conventional heavy-duty slewing ring. This prompted designers to rethink the traditional slewing bearing configuration.

Suspension column bearings for radial, axial and moment loads, mounted in two sets of ball or roller slewing bearings arranged along the shaft. This configuration is achieved by slewing two sets of slewings over the shaft. Set to get a higher torque load capability. However, for such a configuration, due to space constraints and installation complexity, it is difficult to adapt to new applications, and this is the advantage of the slewing bearing. The use of a single slewing ring instead of two sets of slewing bearings not only reduces the height of the device, but also simplifies the component structure. Therefore, the slewing ring is particularly suitable for use in new operating devices in industrial automation.

The correct choice of slewing ring depends on the requirements of load, stiffness, speed, size and rotational flexibility. The user and the slewing bearing manufacturer discuss the design goals and the suitability of the slewing ring, which helps to optimize the performance of the system at the lowest cost and to ensure trouble-free operation.
